Recorded as family #229: James Davis (age 39), Moay (age 32), Julia (age 12), Jonas (age 10), James M. (age 8), John G. (age 7), Mealissee (age 5), Reacy (age 3), Allen (age 1). Everyone was born is AL except James who was born in GA. James states his occupation as farmer and estimates the value of his real estate to be $300 and personal estate $1, 063. Julia and Jonas attended school within the last year and Mary cannot read or write. 
Additional information about Geneva County, AL around 1870: Geneva County was created two years prior to this census on December 26, 1868 from Coffee, Dale, and Henry Counties. It is located near the Choctawhatchee River.. The Freedmen's Bureau, formed after the Civil War, managed this land until they were abolished in 1868 by the US Congress. They were committed to the supervision and management of all abandoned lands and the control of all subjects relating to refugees and freedmen.
