His parents were William Daugherty (1/24/1818 PA -8/26/1917 OH)and Elizabeth Marshall Daugherty(1812 Ireland -1900 OH). His gandparents were John Daugherty and Anna Hilliard Daugherty.

On April 30, 1874 he married Lydia L. Johnson (1855-1918). They had seven children: John Edward (8/4/1876-12/13/1937), Louis W. (4/5/1878 - 1935),Kate E. (1880-1956),Marshall (12/15/1882 - 10/13/1962), Lydia Lorraine (7/31/1886 - 10/26/1968),Charles O. (9/14/1889 -1967) and Joseph Paul (4/7/1893-9/1963).
