Dorothea Cramer
1839 - 11/15/1909
Dorothea Cramer was born about 1839 in an unknown place overseas in Germany (Prussia) and died on November 15, 1909 in Van Buren, Ohio. Actual date of birth is unknown. She lived to be about 70 years old.

Her father, Kaspar Cramer is believed to be related to Maria Cramer (who is the mother of August Kalthoff). If this is true, she and August Kalthoff are grandchildren of Franz A. Cramer and M. Freusberg.

A son, Matthew -- born in November 1869, dies when he is about 7-8 months old. It is believed the Kalthoff family moved while the 1870 census was being collected and were recorded twice -- once before the death of Matthew and again after his death.

Census6/28/1880 Hamtramck MI (Wayne County) 41 yrs old
Recorded in dwelling #391, family #404: August Kalthoff (age 54) Dorothea (age 42), Mary (age 17), Robert (14), Elizbeth (6), Terrese (3), Dorothea (9 months), and Casper Volkenrath (father [???], age 50). August is working in a grocery and Casper is working as a peddler. Casper is a widower. All who are 17 years old or older were born in Germany and those younger were born in Michigan. Elizbeth has been attending school and no one in the household can read or write. The family of Antony Cramer (age 31) is living next door.

NOTE: The June 5, 1865 New York Passenger lists Casper Volkenrath (age 35) and T. Volkenrath (female, age 54). They were traveling from Germany to the United States with A. Kramer (female, age 18) and G. Kramer (male, age 7). Casper's age makes it impossible for him to be the father of August as stated on this census report.
