BENJAMIN BLOUNT'S WILL. NORTH CAROLINA.
IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN. The first Day of February, 1739, I, Benjamin Blount, Sen; of Terrill County and Province Aforesaid, Planter, being Very Sick and weak in Body But of perfect Mind and Memory, Thanks be Given unto God; There- fore calling to mind ye mortality of my Body And knowing that itt is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordainthis my last will and Testament, that is to Say: Principally and first of all I Give and Recommend my Soul into ye Hands of God that Gave itt and my Body I recommend to ye Earth to be Buried in Christion Burial att ye Discretion of my Exec- utors, nothing Doubting but att ye Generall Resurrection I Shall Receive ye Same aGain by ye mighty Power of God; and as touching Such worldly Estate Wherewith It hath pleased God to bless me in this life I Give Demise and dispose of ye Same in ye Following Manner and form: I Desire that my Whole Stock of Cattle That is in my Proper mark may Be Equily Divided Between My Son, James and Jacob and Isaac and my Daughter Esther, and Each of Them one Bed and one Iron pot and Each of them one ew. Item. I will that my Son, Edmund, and my Daughter, mary, and my Daughter, Sarah, may have five Shillings Each. Item. I Give to my Sone, Benjamin, my manner Plantation. Item. I will yt if any of my Children Dies without heirs Lawfully Begotten of them to fall then To ye youngest Son Either Land or Movables. I will and bequeath to my beloved wife, Elisabeth, ye Re- mainder Part of my Estate Both of Goods and Chattles and Movables, Whome I likewise make my Executrix with my son, Benjamin, Executor, of This my Last will and Testament of all and Singular my Lands and tennem'ts, and I do hereby utterly Disalow and Revok all other former Testaments, Wills, Legaces and Excet (?) by me in any ways Before named willed and Bequeathed, Confirming this and no other to be my last Will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal ye day and year above written.

Georgia is the thirteen English colony to be settled. It is established not so much for economic opportunity, but to be a military barrier between Spanish-owned Florida and the Carolinas. It is also set up as a refuge for former prisoners and the poor.
11 1741 Georgia is divided into two counties: Savannah and Frederica.
13 1743 William Stephens becomes the first President of Georgia.
19 1749 Mary Musgrove declares herself Empress of the Creeks and marches on Savannah with a Creek Army to either collect moneys due her for services rendered during the War of Jenkin's Ear or to drive whites from Creek lands.
28 1758 Georgia organized into 8 parishes: Christ Church, Saint Andrew, Saint George, Saint James, Saint John, Saint Matthew, Saint Paul and Saint Philip.

17 1747 The New York Bar Association is founded in New York City
20 1750 Charleston, SC, has become the most affluent and largest city in the South. It is the leading port and trading center for the southern colonies. The population in the Carolinas has exceeded 100,000 with many French Protestant Huguenots. The wealth plantation owners bring private tutors from Ireland and Scotland. Public education does not exist.
30 1760 The Cherokee War (1760-61) ends in a treaty that opens the Up County for settlement. The Bounty At of 1761 offers public land tax free for ten years, and settlers from other colonies begin pouring into the Carolina "Up Country".
33 1763 Georgia Gazette begins publication. It is the first newspaper in Georgia and the eighth newspaper in the English colonies.
36 1766 Britain passes the Stamp Act taxing all colonial newspapers, advertisements, leases, licenses, pamphlets, and legal documents. Later the same year, Britain repeals the Stamp Act in Britain -- but it continues to be enforced on colonists in North America
43 1773 Angered by the tea tax of 1767 and the British East India Company's monopoly on tea trade, the independent New England colonial merchants dump the precious cargo overboard into the Boston harbor. This incident is called the Boston Tea Party.
