Myrtle Christine Perkins
3/18/1918 - 5/8/2008
(Shown at age 22)
Myrtle Christine Perkins was born on March 18, 1918 in Marianna, Florida and died on May 8, 2008 in Jacksonville, Florida. She lived to be 90 years old.

She married John T. Presley. Thier children are Francis Merle, John Earl, Kathen Elaine, Lawrence Preston & Judith Luann Presley.

Born and raised in Marianna, Florida, Myrtle was a rare beauty. She was a quiet, gentle, introspective person with a capacity to love that few people in this life have. Myrtle had a dry, quiet sense of humor that served her well over the years. She could be very funny without even meaning to be. She forgave and excused everyone’s faults. Myrtle had brown hair (which turned grey early in life) and beautiful brown Perkins’ eyes. She was very attentive to her husband and family. I remember the many hours she sat with us in the evening and helped us with our school work and read us Bible Stories every day of our young lives. She saw that we were at church every time the doors were open in an effort to train our young minds to love the Lord. She loved us with a love that wouldn’t give up.
Myrtle was very creative and a master in the kitchen and at the sewing machine. She made most of our clothes and taught us to sew at an early age. She even found the time (who knows how) to embroider flowers at the neck of our baby dresses. Money was tight in those days and each year at Christmas she would take our one doll, make a new outfit for it, get it a new wig and presto we had a “new” baby doll for Christmas. She made a pink taffeta dress for my doll out of the scraps from Elaine’s pink taffeta recital gown. I still have it. She also made a gold satin baby outfit with bonnet for Melanie’s daughter using scraps from one of Elaine’ prom gowns. Elaine actually donated a lot of scraps for these things and I am quite sure that she didn’t even know it! Physically Myrtle was very muscularly built, strong in stature, around 5’1” tall and very healthy. Later in life she developed Type II diabetes and suffered some strokes. May, 2008-Mama has been in the hospital three times in the last 6 weeks suffering from pneumonia. She is currently at the rehab center trying to get strong again. This has been a hard time for her. In her last few years, her vision was very poor and she had difficulty walking but she rarely complained. She always smiled, loving every minute she spent with any family member.
May 8, 2008 Myrtle went to be with our Lord and Savior this morning at around 7 AM. Mama, we will miss you so very much. What a loving, precious contribution you made to our lives. I know that you are dancing around God’s throne holding hands with Daddy. You don’t know any more pain or tears. God be with you till we meet again.
