| Eleazer 'Dent' Blackburn Hamilton was born about 1829 in Davison Co., Tennessee and died about 1862 in Camp Butler, Illinois. Dates for birth and death are estimated. He lived to be about 33 years old.
He was a private in the CSA Co.D, 30 Tennessee Infantry also in the CSA Co.H. 55th Infantry and taken prisoner during his first battle at Ft. Donelson located at Dover, Tennessee. It was said that when the Federals attacked, his company broke and ran, being outnumbered; and that only he and his captain stood their ground.He was then sent to Camp Butler also known as Camp Chase in Illinois. While a prisoner, he became ill with tuberculosis and died. It is believed that his wife, Sarah, was allowed to visit him during his illness.
